The best multiplayer games give people something to talk about afterwards. These European games do that in very different ways — from a two-player adventure designed to be argued over to a universe that has been running for more than twenty years.

It Takes Two — Sweden

Hazelight's co-operative adventure cannot be played alone, and it is all the better for it. Each chapter gives the two players complementary abilities, so every puzzle is a conversation.

Minecraft — Sweden

Minecraft is many things, but shared worlds are where it shines. Building together — or exploring a friend's elaborate creation — is one of gaming's most generous experiences.

Baldur's Gate 3 — Belgium

Larian's role-playing game supports up to four players across its whole campaign. Shared decisions, and the occasional betrayal, make for remarkable evenings.

“A good multiplayer game gives people something to talk about afterwards.”

EVE Online — Iceland

Nothing else quite resembles EVE's single universe. It is best experienced as part of a player corporation, where collective goals give the game its meaning.

Clash Royale — Finland

Supercell's three-minute duels are perfect for short, competitive sessions. Note that the game includes in-game purchases; set limits before younger players start.

Before you play together

  • Check the PEGI age rating on the publisher's official page.
  • Review platform family settings for chat and spending.
  • Agree on session length in advance — multiplayer games make 'one more round' very easy.
